Traditionally, Hockey in Andhra Pradesh was confined to Districts of Rayalasaama and few pockets in Coastal Andhra like Visakhapatnam , Yellamanchili and Guntur . During the last Four and half decades , efforts were made to spread the game to other areas in the State.
Initially Andhra Hockey Association was formed in 1955, later it was shaped as ’Hockey Andhra Pradesh’ in the year 2009 . After bifurcation of Unified Andhra Pradesh, present ‘Hockey Andhra Pradesh ‘ is established by Sri.M.Niranjan Reddy as it’s founder General Secretary , under the aegis of ‘ Hockey India ’, an ‘Apex Body ‘ for Hockey at National level , on 26 th October.2014.
Earlier, late Sri. T.N. Raghunath Reddy garu a philanthropist from Madanapalle , late Sri. T. Jesudanam. Late Sri. Anandraaja Sundaram , late Sri. A. Raghavendra Rao, Sri. V.Dinesh Reddy, Sri.C.P.K.Dutt and Sri. Niranjann Reddy carried the organisation successfully till the year 2014, on the name of Andhra Hockey Association and later on the name of ‘Hockey Andhra Pradesh’.
Sri. Niranjan Reddy pivotal for Hockey in Andhra Pradesh , who was served for the cause , for about 44 years in different posts as Joint-Secretary, Vice President, General Secretary and Director for State hockey took initiation in establishing Hockey Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
At the begining Sri.Niranjan Reddy was General Secretary from 2014 to 2018 and later he was Director for a period of two years i.e. ,2018 -20. Sri. M. Gnaneswar Reddy was President for Hockey Andhra Pradesh, from 2014 to 2016. Later Sri. Mukesh Kumar Meena became President of Hockey AP and served from 2016 to 2020. At the same time, Smt. K. Koteswaramma was hold the post of General Secretary of Hockey Andhra Pradesh between 2018 to 2020.Presently,this organsation is functioning under the able leadership of Sri.D.Vasudeva Reddy, IRTS.,President and under the workman’ ship of Sri.Harsha Vardhan , General Secretary.
( However, Hockey Andhra Pradesh is not going to rest on the past laurels, but dedica - ting to work further / future improvement of Hockey in State of Andhra Pradesh.The priority would sustain the efforts to unearthing the talent at grassroot level , co ordinating efforts to improve hockey and modern infrastucture in every nook and corner in the State, to reach newer heights in the years to come.)
